Privacy Policy

How the calculator works

Payoff is a fully client-side application. All calculations — loan amounts, interest rates, payment schedules, rent comparisons — run in JavaScript inside your own browser. Nothing you enter is transmitted to us, stored by us, or shared with anyone. When you close the tab, the numbers are gone.

Information we do not collect

• We do not collect names, email addresses, or any account information (there are no accounts).
• We do not collect the financial figures you enter.
• The calculator itself sets no cookies and does not use browser local storage to retain your inputs.
• We do not sell your personal information for money. Note that some US state laws treat cookie-based personalized advertising as “sharing” or a “sale” of personal information — see “Your privacy choices” below for how to opt out. The figures you enter in the calculator are never shared with advertisers or anyone else.

Third-party services

Four categories of third parties are involved in delivering, measuring, and funding the site:

• Web hosting. Like any website, our hosting provider may log standard technical information when your browser requests the page — such as your IP address, browser type, and the time of the request. These logs are used for security and reliability, not to identify you, and they never contain anything you type into the calculator.
• Advertising. The site is supported by advertisements served through Google AdSense. Google and its partner vendors use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads, measure their performance, and — where you have consented or where permitted by law — personalize them based on your visits to this and other websites. Advertising partners receive the standard technical data that accompanies web requests (such as your IP address and pages visited); they never receive the loan amounts, rates, or other figures you type into the calculator, which stay on your device. You can control ad personalization at Google Ads Settings or opt out of personalized advertising from many providers at aboutads.info/choices. In the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, ad and analytics cookies are off by default (via Google Consent Mode) until you make a choice through the consent message provided by Google’s certified consent management platform; if you decline, only non-personalized ads are served and analytics cookies are not set. • Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate site usage — things like page views, approximate geography, and device type — so we can improve the tool. Google Analytics may set cookies or similar identifiers in your browser and receives the standard technical data that accompanies web requests, such as your IP address. It never receives the loan amounts, rates, or any other figures you type into the calculator; those stay on your device. Google's handling of analytics data is described in Google's privacy policy, and you can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or any content blocker — the calculator works fully either way.
• Fonts. The page loads typefaces from Google Fonts. When your browser requests those font files, Google receives the technical request data (such as your IP address) that accompanies any web request. Google's handling of that data is described in Google's privacy policy.

Your privacy choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding personal information collected through cookies — including the right to opt out of what some laws define as the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for advertising. You can exercise these choices through the consent banner (where shown), the Google Ads Settings link above, or your browser's cookie controls. Declining advertising and analytics cookies does not affect the calculator, which works fully either way.

Downloads and printing

The "Download CSV" and "Print" features are generated entirely in your browser. The CSV file is created locally on your device and never passes through our systems.

Children's privacy

payoff.tips is a general-audience financial education tool and is not directed to children under 13. The site itself collects no personal information from anyone, including children. As described above, third-party services (hosting, analytics, advertising, and fonts) receive standard technical data such as IP addresses when any visitor loads the page; we do not knowingly permit personalized advertising to children.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the site works in a way that affects privacy, we will update this page and revise the "last updated" date above before the change takes effect.
